Why the blog?

Co-chairing Relay for Life ’08 – one of my first times organizing a major fundraising effort

I am starting this blog about two months into my first full-time post-college job, working in philanthropy. Before last March, when I first heard about this job opening from a close mentor of mine, I had never even considered working for a foundation, let alone a non-profit. Only eight weeks later, I feel the giving-bug creeping up more and more every day. Giving has always been in my bones. As I’ll explain more later on, giving is a part of my family and religious culture. It’s something we do by nature, but not something I have ever truly taken the time to think about.

This blog is my chance to explore the act of giving. Why do I give? Where do I give to? And how can I be a part of making our world a more generous place?
